Howdy,
So has anyone heard anything? ive wanted an iphone for a while now but i dont want to go and buy the current one if a new one is about to be launched. If so, how much do you reckon it would be and what are the new improved features? Cheers xx

Historically Apple has launched the iPhone in July, the first was launched in July ‘07, the 3G in July ‘08 and the 3GS in July ‘09 so its safe to assume the next generation of the iPhone is scheduled to be launched this July. We should be getting some type of preview of what to expect in Apple’s upcoming media event on the 26th of this month with the anticipated announcement of Apple’s latest device, purported to be some type of tablet Mac. I’m looking forward to it.

I want to know if I can legally use news RSS feeds within my own custom iPhone app.
There’s a new service that let’s one create custom iPhone applications and RSS feeds are required to create them. There will be banner ads within the app. Here’s website: www.appmakr.com

yes, you can.

The Mensch is back with a review of a great game Tower Madness. This game reminded me of Starcraft. The game starts out giving you a map that you have to set defenses so that the aliens can’t get to the sheep you are trying to defend. At the end of a long day, there’s nothing more gratifying than watching hordes of aliens fall victim to your laser cannons and missile turrets. Its a tower-defense strategy game for iPhone.

The objective is to defend your flock of sheep from aliens, cockroaches and other strange creatures hell bent on abducting your woolly friends. You do so by building towers containing laser cannons, grenade mortars, missile turrets and other weapons to defeat the invaders; each kill gets you a few dollars. The strategy lies in how you arrange these towers, when to build them and what weapons you decide to buy.

It’s pretty addictive and fun after you get good at it. The full game costs $3; a free version, Tower Madness Lite, is also available in the App Store.

I know we had many of these cell phones in our house. Whats crazy, is how many of these cell phones I remember. How many of them do you remember? Which ones where your favorite? Which ones did you not like?

I have to say that up till 2003, I think Nokia had the best phones in the market place. Their phones were great on many networks. I never had a complaint about them. When Samsung and other brands came out with their own versions, and we could start to get email and everything else on the phones, that is where I think Nokia lost its edge. Now with the iPhone, I think Apple has the market very well in hand. Who agrees with me?

After several months of testing out new application, I found several that are great for children. My own kids love to play these games to the point that every time we are sitting down somewhere for a meal they would like to play these games. These games are educational. It is amazing how far games have come on the iPhone in the last six months alone. The games that my kids enjoy are listed below with an explanation of the games.

1. Memory Pro – This app is based on the old fun game of memory. I remember playing this game with cards on the carpet. Now they have this game on the iPhone with no need to keep card in a box and make sure you still have them all. The game plays on the child’s memory and helps them enhance their memory. I have played the game with my 3 year old and he has progressed from the beginners level to the advanced. Its a fun game for the kids, and is educational.

2. Bug Squash – The game is made to concentrate the childs hand eye coordination. The premise of the game is squash every bug that crawls across the screen. It gives the kids the ability to have fun since the backgrounds look like food they may have eaten.

3. Whiteboard – Whiteboard is a great way to let your child have fun drawing a picture on the screen. It can even be saved and shared over the internet. Its a great way to let them be creative when a pen a paper are not available.

4. Quizzing – This is a simple quiz game for kids. It allows them to answer simple questions like colors, numbers, and letters. It works very well with 3 year olds who are just learning their letters and numbers.

There are more apps being created each day. I will be posting more as we test more.

For those of you that have loved playing the card game Phase 10, get ready. They now have an application for you to play Phase 10 on your iPhone. This application is great. Very easy to use, and you can adjust the speed if you are interested in a fast paced game.

I have been using the application for the last two months, and the game is a great way to use up time if you are waiting for anything. I have not come across any glitches, and the game seams to be learning how I play. For some reason I have started to actually lose against the computer. It might be learning how I play.

The object of the game is to complete each of the ten specific phases. If you complete the phase, you advance to the next phase, but if you do not, you must try again.

This mobile version includes stunning graphics and special effects, an innovative gameplay style and special game modes for you to discover. Play alone or with up to three players and collect special awards in the game as you progress.

Remember if you need to find something to do, like while you are sitting on a plane, check out Phase 10 for the iPhone today.

Most people would think that using the iPod on the iPhone is the only way to hear music. One day I was about to go walk my dog, and I noticed a glitch on my phone. All of my music in my iPod was gone. I didn’t know what to make of it. I thought to go back and spend all my time fixing the phone. So I looked for an application and I found the Pandora Internet Radio App.

The application is very cool. It allows you to choose the music that you like to listen to and through the internet it will play those songs to create a playlist of your music. The connection on my phone was not bad at all. There was no choppy signal, or deterioration of the music. It was crystal clear. I also found the Pandora App to be very useful when I was on a trip to New York, and the same thing happened. They had Go-go on the flight, and I just turned on my iPhone and started listening to my playlists. It was a great way to get my music and keep going without having a head ache of trying to reset my phone.

I know eventually I will need to reset my phone, but for the time being the Pandora app is a great application to hear music.

Back in 2005 my life changed dramatically. My wife and I found out that I had a ruptured disc that was going to need surgery. What was even more exciting was that we also found out that my wife was pregnant with our second child. This is what you can say was probably the heaviest point of my life. I was weighing in at 310 lbs. I didn’t know what to do.

A year later after we had our second child, my wife said to hell with it. She said we were going to join weight watchers, and go all out. There was one catch that she asked from me. That was that we both go to different meetings. I agreed and started my weight loss transformation in August 2007.

Once I started we decided to remove all the food that we had purchased and start to buy food that was on plan. We started noticing two major differences. The first was that we were spending about the same in terms of groceries, and our food was lasting longer. We were actually eating all the food we purchased. This also showed us that we were going out less, and when we were we ate differently. We started eating smaller portions which meant cheaper prices on our meals. We learned that the amounts of food we were eating was enough for a whole family.

After two years the challenge has been trying to keep going after my goal. I have been trying to reach my goal of 220 and it has not been easy after 2 years. What you have to understand is that anything worth attaining in life is never easy. What has made this journey easy is my wife, kids, and the new iPhone Weight Watchers application. This application has helped me to get all my points calculated, and has taken away any excuse to making my life easy. I have also taken on more workouts since I know that diet alone can’t get me all the way to my goal.

I am happy to say that after 2 years, I have dropped 50lbs. and I am continuing towards my goal. I always remember what a wise man once told me, and he continues to tell me this today. “Invest now.” (by David, My Father) These two words are the biggest driving force in my life that can be attributed to everything in my life. That is what I am doing with Weight Watchers. I am investing now in myself to reap the rewards later in life. Keep investing!

Just think, when you first started school how many computers where in your school, and how many kids knew how to use them.  Not only that, how many teachers knew how to use and fix them when something went wrong.  When I went to school, we did have a computer lab with about 25 computers and they were all Mac based computers.  The computers were used to teach us how to type, and had very remedial programs like Math Blaster and Oregon Trail.  These programs were the start for many children on computer.  I consider myself very lucky, when the first computer my father brought home was a Tandy “Trash” 80.  I was about 6 or 7 years old.  This computer laid the ground work for my brother and I to start learning how to program.  We both took to it very quickly inventing and learning with Basic.  Back in the 80s if you mentioned Basic people looked at you like you were crazy.  From there we started learning more and more about computers, but also how they worked from the inside out.  I was very fortunate to have an education about computers at such an early age.  What was unfortunate, is how my knowledge of computers would actually hurt my knowledge in school.  I would want to use my computer to help me with all my tasks and reports.  Back then there was no Internet, but I could use it for word processing.  The trouble was my teachers did not like that.  They wanted me to write everything by hand. Today, my son, who is 5, is still learning to write everything in hand, but they are also teaching them to write.  When I saw his class room, I thought man these computers are old.  I understand that the computer power needed to run the programs that they need are not that high, and I like the fact that he is learning to type.

The future of his schooling is not necessarily going to belong to the schools he attends.  Its going to reside in the amount of effort I put into teaching him the things that schools won’t.  For instance, I think it is vital to teach our children about credit.  How many people would have loved if they would have learned about credit in grade school.  By College it was already too late.  That is when we all got flooded with the offer of free stuff to fill out a credit application.  Another aspect of learning that I will need to teach is how to study.  The schools here in Texas teach to a state test.  The test is a joke.  What good is it to teach a child by jumping around from chapter to chapter to try to build their basis, when all they had to do was teach from first chapter to last chapter.

I will teach my children how to study.  I will also teach my children how to think for themselves and to get ahead.  They have every opportunity, and I will give and show them every tool to master their goals.  This is my promise to them.
