Rifkin Says: 20 Million IPhone Users May Qualify for Suit

July 13 (Bloomberg) — Mark Rifkin, an attorney with Greenfield & Ripkin LLP, discusses a federal judge’s decision to grant class-action status to a lawsuit against Apple Inc. and AT&T Inc. that alleges monopolization of the iPhone. Rifkin, lead counsel in the lawsuit, talks with Margaret Brennan on Bloomberg Television’s “InBusiness.”

iPhone lawsuit is now a class action

SAN JOSE, Calif. — A federal judge says a lawsuit against Apple Inc. and AT&T Inc.’s mobile phone unit can move forward as a class action. The suit, which alleges monopolistic behavior, consolidates several filed by iPhone buyers starting in late 2007, a few months after Apple’s smartphone went on sale.

A 2008 amended complaint takes issue with Apple’s “locking’’ of iPhones so they work only on AT&T’s network, and its control over what applications iPhone owners can use on the gadgets.

The lawsuit also says Apple secretly made AT&T its exclusive US iPhone partner for five years. Consumers agree to two-year contracts but are in effect locked into a five-year relationship with AT&T, the suit says, claiming the actions hurt competition and drove up prices.

Judge James Ware said parts of the suit that deal with antitrust law can continue as a class action. The class includes anyone who bought an iPhone with a two-year AT&T contract.

When is it possible to watch live news with The CNN App for the iPhone?

Hey, I just bought the CNN App for the iPhone. It looks really good, but I cannot watch the CNN News live. The app allows me to watch only a couple of older reports. Do they stream live only on/at certain time of the day? Is it possible to watch the ‘World Report’ live?

Who in their right mind would watch such a stupid inaccurate propaganda news channel. CNN news ratings are so low , do you want to know how low their ratings are? Their so low you could hit a tennis ball on a curb.

What is the best news app for the iphone and ipod touch?

What in your opinion, is the best news application of current events for the iphone and ipod touch?

No question about it – the WSJ application is fantastic. Hurry up and get it soon because soon the wall street journal will start charging for it. Second best in my mind is the NYTimes app. I’ve also tried Thomson Reuters News Pro – but haven’t found I’ve spent a lot of time on it. The best weather news application is AccuWeather.

Hello Everyone,

I have been reading up on the various blogs that have been posting about the new Apple iPad and the HP Slate. This video really gives an eye opening account of what people might want to think about before they buy either one. I think it really depends on how you plan to use the products before you buy each one. I have not played with either one, but I will do my research before I decide on which to buy. You also might want to wait to see what the next modifications are going to be to the iPad, and also what the Android is going to come out with to counter the iPad. Enjoy the video.

I was watching the news and they said the Iphone is coming to the Verizon Network Soon!what do you think about that?I am really happy..I honestly was not gonna switch to At&t Because there Coverage suck..So anyways i guess this is official!

So has anyone heard anything? ive wanted an iphone for a while now but i dont want to go and buy the current one if a new one is about to be launched. If so, how much do you reckon it would be and what are the new improved features? Cheers xx

Historically Apple has launched the iPhone in July, the first was launched in July ’07, the 3G in July ’08 and the 3GS in July ’09 so its safe to assume the next generation of the iPhone is scheduled to be launched this July. We should be getting some type of preview of what to expect in Apple’s upcoming media event on the 26th of this month with the anticipated announcement of Apple’s latest device, purported to be some type of tablet Mac. I’m looking forward to it.
