God, people, land and, of course, food… These are the things that make a country what it is. Israel, unique amongst the nations of the world, is also the most diverse religiously, ethnically, geographically, and culinarily due to its historic role as “the belly button of the universe” (as Israelis like to call it). “Israel in Song” takes you on a visual adventure of this land of extremes, traveling through the wooded green mountains and hills of the north to the desert springs of the south, from the urban landscapes of Israel’s four major cities to the coasts of the Mediterranean, the Dead Sea, and the Red Sea at Eilat, stopping, of course, to appreciate all the wildlife in between. Christians, Jews, Moslems, and Druze come together in a collage of city and village life that features the traditional dress, festivals, religious rituals, and most famous houses of worship of them all. Whether at work in the olive groves or fishing in the fields, playing together at skateboarding or surfing, or shopping side-by-side in the outdoor market, as the camera sweeps from one location to another, the true proximity in which they live becomes strikingly clear. Sprinkled with historical footage, the viewer witnesses first-hand the most important stages and moments of the state’s founding and development. Military victory and loss, early immigrant life on the “kibbutzim”, and crucial political figures and events give depth and meaning to the modern panorama of life in Israel. This land is, however, first and foremost the Jewish Homeland, a land of redemption for God’s Chosen People. 35 folk, religious, and even modern songs from every corner of their exile and Israel itself, lamenting and celebrating every aspect of the Jewish experience, invest your visual journey with an emotional intensity that… well, it’s o.k. if you cry. But they’re all in Hebrew, right? Yes, indeed. But we suspected you might like to sing along, so we’ve phonetically transliterated (written the Hebrew

The most beautiful songs of all periods. A wonderful, welcome gift for all those far away who want to feel closer Translation: 1. COME & TOUR THE LAND Chorus Come and tour the land (literally: walk yourself through) with your backpack and stick and there on your journey you’ll rediscover the land of Israel The paths will embrace you of this good country she will call you to her like a love song This is the land this is the earth, the rock will burn and explode in the heat. Under the ashfalt and the buildings the homeland is hiding, shy and modest. Chorus Come and tour the land with your backpack and stick and there on your journey you’ll rediscover the land of Israel The olive trees and the springs of water, yet again we guard the dream and her old dream. The red roofs and children in the streets in the place that we walked with our backpacks. Chorus Come and tour the land with your backpack and stick and there on your journey you’ll rediscover the land of Israel 2. A NIGHT WALK The desert sands brought the heat to the road, and an evening breeze blew on the hills on the road to the mountain a boy and a girl whispered a song of love. Ho ho ho……………………. A night bird whistles in the night sky a thorny bush went up in flames on the road stone sat a boy and a girl, whispering a song of love. The wind blew off the road’s light, a man finished his day, a letter was written, up on the road walked a boy and a girl, whispering a song of love. The summer is today to the break of night a pure day of heat, a thundering day arrived on hilltop whispered a boy and a girl a song of love that will never end 3. SING TO ME, SEA OF GALILEE The Golan Heights in the horizon stand in silence, And boys - their heart beats, guard them. When they sit at night around the bon fire They answer you, Kineret, with a song. Sing to me, the Sea of Galilee, an old song Sing to me, the Sea of Galilee; sing to me, the Golan Heights. The
I've been wanting to go for several years but I never got a chance to. Now that I can get time off work I want to plan a trip there, but I don't know the best time a year to go.
Of course I'll wait for the things to calm down first, but it is the number one place I want to see in the world.
It is hot in summer, but I have also been there in March, the winters are very cold. But you can take solace in the fact that most places over there have air conditioning. I would go late spring or autumn if you don't like extreme weather.
