How to deal with the trolls in the Israel Travel section?

I know that I usually get at least two thumbs down on every question I answer on here even when I answer something as simple as "What is the capital of Israel?" I have noticed the trolling has become very oneside - what are people's thoughts on this?
Actually - I have been getting reported for things - many of them with no validity - but I recently was able to get one answer reposted and get my points back.

With all due respect, the exchange here really looks like a preteen group of girls is arguing out loud.

Have we nothing more substantial to discuss?

    Hi Mike,

I suggest you ignore them. Thumbs down won't cost you anything, right? At least the trolls haven't reported you.

why do you care? don't worry about it, just ignore!

I agree with you completely. Unfortunately, I don't really think there's anything to be done other than just bear it. Thumbs down don't violate the YA terms of use.

This is the traditional usenet method of dealing with
    Trolls, and is regularly suggested.
It is similar to the method use to train dogs, and very
young children, ignore bad behaviour and reward good
behaviour. Thus it is only likely to work if the, The Infant
or Attention Seeker theory, is true

    Pro:

If you are subscribed to a Sub Target newsgroup this is
quite a reasonable method. The normal change of Sub
Targets will ensure that they do "go away", convincing you
that this is an effective way of dealing with the problem.
It however leaves the Target newsgroup in exactly the same
    mess as it was before.
If you are confronted with a minor attack by merely
Irritating Trolls, or inexperienced and disorganized Trolls,
    this may also work.

    Con:

If you are subscribed to a Target newsgroup, this is
impossible, as up to 90% of posts may be trolls. As the
Intension is to destroy the Target Newsgroup, they will
    *never* go away.

On any newsgroup there are a mixture of subscribers, non of
whom has any ability to control the postings of other
subscribers. Human nature dictates that someone will
*always* reply to a good troll. Arguably this section
should be headed "If *everyone* ignores them and they will
go away." which is arguably impossible to attain.

In the case of uly after a full week of almost total
ignoring of a specific troll made him so angry that he
invited in other trolls. After that a massive and damaging
    attack began.
    uk.local.yorkshire contained this telling sentence.
    > Most people like the countryside, but not everyone is
    > willing to tread shin deep through pig shit to get
    > to a meadow.

it also explains how to use a kill a troll on newsgroup maybe YA will get some ideas.

The trolls are everywhere. I get them in EVERY section. We can't get rid of them. I don't know who gives them to me but I see a lot everytime I answer a question. It bothers me a lot, even when it is an easy answer….."It is Jerusalem." 5 TDs. It is an unfortunate part of Y Answers and there is nothing to do about it. We can't let it bother us.

Yes, it's been getting very nasty again this week. What I find frustrating is when people like 'worldluv' who professes to be 'neutral' then accuses we Jews of 'lying' when we note FACTS such as the FACT that the Jews in Palestine bought land fair and square. It is getting really unfair in this forum. Anything we say is branded either a 'lie' or 'propoganda' - so really, is there any point in our saying anything at all?

Why don't we just totally ignore the more absurd questions? Racism of any kind - whether towards us or Muslims - should get reported, naturally.

    EDIT TO WORLDLUV

Firstly, I did not ever 'attack' you. I merely noted, openly and politely, that you had accused people of lying when they were merely stating facts. You spend a great deal of time and space in this section condemning Israel and telling us of terrible things you have 'seen'. If I just used things I'd seen in Israel, I'd be called 'biased' and you know it.

I am not going to just sit and watch while you claim that people like Michael J have got their facts wrong - he knows far better than you what has happened in Israeli history. So if you don't want me naming you, I understand. Perhaps you'd like to be a bit more careful before behaving as though you know better than the rest of us about Israel. Opinion is one thing - accusing people of lying is quite another.

This is for billybob, Balduci's a food store here in NYC actually did have a sign up for a very short time advertising Chanukah hams. I wonder what happened to the clerk who put the sign up.

you really have to just ignore it. it says a lot about them that they feel the need to come and troll in an israel travel section just because they know jews will be here. just keep your cool. defend yourself, but try not to respond to baiting. try not to respond to insults with insults. they are responsible for their own behaviour, and we should not emulate them, otherwise we will just become the same as them, G-d forbid.

    This is for 'Paperback'

Enough of the personal attacks! This is against community guidelines, did you know?

Let's get the story straight. One answer implied that ALL of the land in Palestine that Jews had was bought. NO FACTS were provided but still, I backed down because perhaps there has been some land bought. Therefore I EDITED my answer to say that perhaps some land had been bought but then gave STATISTICS as to the ILLEGAL settlements and outposts to prove that at least huge chunks of it are not!

BTW - there were thumbs down on your answer before I even saw it today!

PAPERBACK - It is a lie that ALL land was purchased and you know it! I was big enough to back down, despite NO evidence being provided and say that some was probably purchased. That does not dismiss the fact that Israel has ILLEGALLY CONFISCATED huge amounts of Palestinian land! And NO, do NOT put words in my mouth yet again and say that I know you would be called biased. I absolutely do not agree! Be big enough to say when you're wrong!!

Oh GREEN EYED, there is much I could say about how I feel about your postings as well but I will not stoop to the level you have. I will, however, ask you if you can read since you asked me that question and clearly it is YOU that has that problem. I clearly stated that it is the ILLEGALLY confiscated land for the settlements and outposts that I was talking about and nothing else. So please, show me evidence that this land was BOUGHT because I know people who owned the land and it certainly was never bought - just taken over!!!

The more and more I come on this Israel section, I get frustrated each time. It seems like someone from the outside is "thumbing" people down. Trolls are everywhere, unfortunately, but this section has the most! (I gave you a star…LOL)

EDIT TO GREEN-EYED…- I love your answer.

    This is for WORLD-LUV

You are still doing it, what's wrong with you?

The 'old yishuv' Jews did purchase the land legally, and usually at inflated prices. How is it our fault that the absentee Arab landlords were happy to sell their villages etc to us and leave the Palestinian Muslims in the lurch?

As for your statement about Israel 'illegally confiscating' land - again, can't you read or something? Israel got that land WHILE DEFENDING HERSELF FROM THE ARAB ARMIES THAT WERE ATTACKING HER.

Name one country that will give back land to other countries that have ATTACKED HER. Just one. Can you?

Jordan was also created by the UN. I don't see you claiming that Jordan 'stole' land though. Nobody questions Jordan's right to be there.

The Arabs attacked Israel less than 24 hours after she declared indepdence. I want to see Worldluv condemn THAT the way she is so passionate and so swift to condemn Israel.

And I don't blame paperback-writer for getting fed up with you worldluv, because I am as well.

It really annoys me when people put up "facts", and their sources are people's homepages, and pages like 'Fight For Palestine!'… real reliable, unbiased sources there.
Unfortunately, I feel as if some peoples minds will never be changed…. but I think we should just keep putting out real facts, and hopefully some people will start to see what is really going on….

You can't deal with the "Trolls" in the Israel Section… Because the same people who are friendly at times are the same ones using multiple accounts to give "Thumbs down" and report other questions…

MikelnRl you give great answers always… But how do we know you don't have another account that comes in to insult and chat to disrupt the section??? Simple: You have way too many best answers and too many points to waste your time on multiple accounts…

That is how you can tell who is a troll and who is a regular user… Another way to tell who is a troll… They constantly change their avatars or pictures… They have too much time in their hands….

*Trolls are grown ups, who spend all day in their computers receiving welfare with nothing else to do in life…
