What would be the least expensive way to travel in israel?

Do not call me cheapskate, I want to spend very little when I get there.

There are many generous men who like to treat women to everything… Might want to try meeting a generous man that will pay for you while you are there???…

at least for getting around tel-aviv and jerusalem, the bus system is excellent. im an american, and like calling me a tourist underestimates my ability to find my way around, but i did it easily. its super cheap.. uhh i think about less than 10 dollars gets you pretty much around from telaviv to jerusalem,

its an easy system, and there are information desks that speak english :)

Join the army. It will get you pretty close. You could walk the rest of the way.

The monit sherut's are great. They are these little vans that work like buses..they are good for going far places. I took one from Petakh Tikva to the Dead Sea, it was like a 1.5hr drive..much cheaper than a cab..but if you really want to save, you have to take buses.. you will have to transfer places probably.

Most malls have this thing called "tachanat merkazit" which means central station. Think of Penn Station. I would suggest buses…but if it is somewhere far, a monit sherut.

There are many ships you can take once you are in the Med. You can get a cheap ticket if you sleep on deck with all the other back packers.

Take your time walking around places, there are many very cheap hotels in Jerusalem where you can stay and meet other independent travelers.

You can also hitchhike, as the country is pretty small and everyone hitches around, especially Israeli soldiers.

Avoid kibbutzing - a romantic notion of going somewhere and living for free, but you'll be in the middle of nowhere, hate half the people staying with you, and be completely out of money.

An excellent public-transit system (trains, buses, and sherut shared cabs, avoid regular taxis) for inter-city travel. Israel is small, so walking is a good idea inside most cities. In some rural areas (Galilee, outside Jerusalem, Negev) hitchhiking is very common, though you should probably consult [young] locals first.

The bus is a good way and the train too. They are very cheap in Israel: 5$ to go to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv. In Israel they have taxis that are like buses (sherut) , very fast and a bit cheaper than buses.
